3rd Generation Modular FPV System
The Fat Shark Dominator video headset offers a fully immersive experience for FPV. I've been waiting to order a pair of these for a few months now, but they were out of stock everywhere. Finally a few of them came back into stock at HobbyKing, so I quickly bought a pair and impatiently waited for them to arrive (You can buy them from a US retailer at GetFPV.com). It is now 12 days later, and they're here! This headset is the most expensive piece of my FPV gear now totaling around $400 after adding the 5.8GHz receiver and head tracker modules + shipping. I figured that I've come this far with all my other FPV gear, might as well go for it with the headset to get the full FPV effect.
The Dominators do not come with the extra modules, so I ordered these separately. I bought the 5.8GHz receiver module to enable the headset to be truly wireless. I have the 5.8 Fat Shark transmitter in my ground station which repeats the signal from my 1280mhz Lawmate receiver to my Fat Shark headset.
I also ordered the head tracker module board. This board plugs right in overtop the existing board in the headset. Both modules are very easy to install. I didn't notice when I ordered the headset that the head tracker cable that came with it was for a Futaba style Tx, where I need the JR type 3mm adapter, so I've ordered that cable.
The headset didn't come with a battery, but I happened to have a 2s 1000Mah battery laying around from my other planes. I created a nice JST to bullet adapter. The battery fits snuggly in the headband of the Fat Sharks; it should work out well!
The view you get with this headset is awesome. It's like into your own personal movie theater. You can see edge to edge easily enough, and after a minute or two you forget that you're looking at a screen. I look forward to trying these out with my Skywalker!
