Sarasota Sidewalk Chalk Art - 2011

On November 1st, local artists and artists from around the world traveled to Sarasota to transform South Pineapple Avenue in Burns Square into a walking performance art museum of art history creating street paintings in the ‘Pavement Art through the Ages’ or going vertical with the ‘Art of Graffiti’. I went to see the chalk on Sunday the last day of the festival. Many artists were putting the final touches on their pieces, and it was very interesting to see their techniques and tools they used to create the art. Downtown was packed with thousands of people on a warm November Sunday afternoon; it felt like walking shoulder to shoulder in a concert.

I think some of the best parts were getting to see the artwork from different perspectives, especially the 3d ones. It was obvious how much skill and technique was required to complete peices like this. Take a look at the photo gallery below of some of the art from that day.
